Maintenance and Care of Berber Rugs
At RUG&ROOT, we offer Berber rugs
that are cleaned and treated according to high standards that prioritize both health and environmental respect.
To keep your Berber rug in excellent condition, we recommend following a few simple care steps. Berber rugs are highly durable and easy to maintain. Regularly vacuum at a moderate speed to remove dust and dirt, which helps to revitalize the fibers. Be gentle around the fringes. To avoid uneven wear, we also suggest rotating the rug once a year. For rugs placed in high-traffic areas, such as hotels, stores, or showrooms, more frequent rotation may be beneficial.
How to Care for Your Berber Rug When Stains Occur
If it’s stained by liquids:For most liquid spills, gently dab with a cloth dampened in hot water, avoiding rubbing the stain. If you’ve used a large amount of water to clean, lift the rug off the ground to allow both sides to dry thoroughly. You may use a hair dryer, but keep the air on a cool setting to protect the rug’s colors from heat damage.
If it’s stained by solids:Carefully lift the solid particles using the blunt edge of a knife or a spoon.
If it’s stained by greasy or oily foods:Use a mild shampoo with cold water to gently clean the area. Avoid harsh detergents, as wool is naturally oil-repellent, and strong chemicals can strip the fibers of their natural oils, impacting the rug’s quality and appearance.
General Cleaning Tip:
A good rule of thumb when selecting a cleaning product is to ask yourself: “Would I use this on my skin?” If the answer is no, it’s likely too harsh for your Berber rug.
For Long-Term Storage:
If you plan to store your rug for an extended period, roll it up (do not fold it) and cover it with a moisture-proof cover, then place it in a dry, well-ventilated area.
